Close Encounter on Roan Mountain
This Comic illustrates a poem written by my sister, Katy Gilmore, about an event from our shared childhood.
The raven and the swan
This comic illustrates the Aesop's fable, "the raven and the swan." The Raven admires the Swan, growing envious of her beauty from afar. The bird mimics her habits, in an attempt to become a swan herself. She began swimming, diving, eating weeds along the water, and catching fish. However, the sudden change did not agree with her, and at last she starved.
The encounter | Graphic novel sample
these three graphic novel pages are the visualization of speculative fiction written by Zoe Gilmore in 2022. The dystopian setting of the text is reflected in the illustration through limited color palette, visual repetition, and textured line work.
The house on young avenue
This digital presentation is a collaboration between sisters, Zoe and Katy Gilmore. Between Katy’s poetry and Zoe’s subsequent response through illustration, they depict their combined experiences in their respective forms of expression. Represented are themes of grief and the consequences of terminal illness, the complex identity of a Jewish girl raised in the American South, and nostalgia for simpler times.
