"Lilith's Cave" – a Tunnel book depicting the Medieval Jewish folktale from Howard Schwartz's retelling and collection. In the story, there is an alternate world only visible through mirrors, where demons and evil temptations exist.
In Lilith’s Cave, there is a mirror stolen from a haunted home and hung in the daughter’s room of a family. Over time, the daughter of the demoness Lilith from inside the mirror influenced the girl to act in ways deemed undesirable for a woman at the time. This story represents the mirrored, mystical world in this folklore as well as a female-centered narrative. In the original context of the story, it sends a message to young girls about vanity, modesty, and chastity. However, in the modern context, one can draw a different conclusion from the story about being a woman in a patriarchal society and the restrictions on freedoms that come from it.
